LifeBio Provides Patients and Families Facing the End of Life
with Tools to Create a Lasting Legacy
(Alexandria, Va.) – For patients and family members facing serious illness or the end of life, developing a biography that captures memories of life experiences is important in creating a lasting legacy. The process of sharing these stories can also be therapeutic for the patient, improving their overall sense of peace and well-being.
The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, the nation’s largest non-profit membership organization representing hospice and palliative care organizations and professionals is collaborating with LifeBio, a web-based program that empowers and assists patients and families in the process of capturing these important memories. Using a private and secure online tool, families interview a loved one through a series of questions or sentence starters that make it simple to quickly generate a life story. Photos, videos or audio recordings can also be included.
Creating a biography can also enhance the quality of care provided to the patient. “Every person is like a book with many chapters. The greater the knowledge of an individual’s life experiences, the more personalized and patient-centered the care they can receive,” said Beth Sanders, founder and CEO of LifeBio.
“Hospice care is about treating the whole patient, not only their physical needs, but psycho-social and spiritual needs as well. We also care for the needs of family members, including the bereavement process following the loss of their loved one,” said J. Donald Schumacher, president and CEO of NHPCO. “LifeBio lends an important tool in providing the comprehensive care that defines hospice.”
By becoming a partner in NHPCO’s Affinity Program, LifeBio will offer its products to National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s members at a discounted price, and a portion of sales to NHPCO members will be donated to NHPCO’s We Honor Veterans program.
