2014 National Hospice Foundation Gala
The 2014 National Hospice Foundation Gala held on March 28, 2014 was such a success as we celebrated forty years of hospice care in the United States! We invited all NHPCO Management and Leadership Conference registrants to join us at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, MD.
Thank you to our sponsors and partners. We are deeply grateful for all of your support. Please see a full listing of sponsors and photos here.
Guests were welcomed into the ballroom by the musical delights of SoundConnection. Soon after, President and CEO, Don Schumacher and Foundation Board Chair, Samira Beckwith, welcomed and thanked guests for celebrating such a momentous time with us. As the program continued, NHF made an appeal to support its affiliate organization, Global Partners in Care, formerly known as FHSSA, where it has expanded its mission to build partnerships to enhance compassionate care globally. A live auction of exciting once-in-a-lifetime experiences and trips ended the program.
Throughout the evening, as guests networked, mingled and danced, awards that had been presented during the week scrolled onscreen.
Three awards were given:
Gretchen Brown, President and CEO of Hospice of the Bluegrass received the inaugural Galen Miller Leadership Award for her passion for hospice and care of the dying, and serving as an ongoing inspiration to others.
Will Schwalbe, best-selling author of a profoundly moving memoir of caregiving, mourning, and love – The End of Your Life Book Club, received the Morfogen Art of Caring Award for using the arts as a means to inspire and increase awareness of end-of-life care. He could not be present to accept the award and submitted an acceptance video, which can be seen below.
Becky McDonald (posthumously), was honored with the Global Vision Award for her dedication and innovation to program development that has profoundly affected the care and well-being of people around the world. Her children pictured below, were present to receive the award.
The 2015 National Hospice Foundation Gala will be held on April 30, 2015 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, in conjunction with NHPCO’s 30th Management and Leadership Conference. To see how you can get involved, please contact Joy Nguyen.
