Auburn Crest Hospice Selects NHF to Receive Memorial Donations

For Immediate Release:
January 7, 2010

(Alexandria, VA) – The National Hospice Foundation is very pleased to announce that Auburn Crest Hospice, located in northern Idaho, is now directing all memorial donations to NHF.  Auburn Crest is a for-profit hospice organization founded in mid-2008 and is a small, family-owned and managed company.

Grateful family members have been asking family and friends to make donations to Auburn Crest Hospice. Staff realized that donors assume the hospice has not-for-profit tax status. In order to honor donors’ intent and ensure that they receive a charitable tax deduction, Lisa Turpin, patient care coordinator, received permission from general manager Rob Angerman and managing owner Richard Malm to direct donations to NHF.

“We see this as an excellent way to benefit the larger hospice community while helping donors memorialize a loved one,” says Turpin. She continues, “I asked our first donors if we could forward their checks to NHF and their response was immediately enthusiastic. They want to support hospice care and the highest level quality of care and do that through an organization like NHF.”

“We were absolutely thrilled when Lisa contacted us,” says Maureen Lilly, NHF’s director of planned giving & stewardship. “We have a partnership like this with Evercare Hospice & Palliative Care and have been hoping to expand the initiative. Lisa’s call was wonderful and we are so grateful to Auburn Crest Hospice for their generosity of spirit.”

In 2010, NHF plans to reach out to other for-profit hospices that would see a community relations benefit in partnering with NHF in this way. For more information, contact Maureen Lilly at mlilly@nationalhospicefoundation.org or 703-516-4928
